Beginner’s Course
What is it?
The Sole Sisters beginner’s course is a 6-week programme with the aim to get you from 0 to 5km by the end of the programme.
It is ideal for any ladies who want to start on their running journey and maybe don’t know where to begin, or quite simply just want the support of a group and the club. It’s also a great way to get back into running after a period of rest / illness / injury / maternity.
How Does it Work?
We set a realistic training programme, with a gradual build-up of mileage.
At the end of the 6 weeks you will be able to join one of our regular Sole Sisters groups if you would like to.
We also host a ‘Graduation Run’ at a local Park Run to celebrate your success.
This course should give you all you need to start running again and give you a new found confidence to keep running.
When is the Next One?
The course typically runs twice a year (January and September). The runs take place at the same time as our Monday night club runs which meet from 6pm at a variety of venue’s across North Bristol.

£15
How Much Does it Cost?
The course costs £15.00.
After you complete the course, you have the option to pay the remaining club membership fee and officially become a Sole Sister with all the benefits that come with being a club member.
What do I Need?
If you are joining / running / jogging for the first time, no special kit is required other than a good pair of trainers and we do recommend a sports bra.
Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. In Summer we strongly advise you bring a bottle of water and in Winter we recommend you dress in brighter clothing for visibility.
We do advise that if you continue to jog / run a pair of specialised running shoes and sports bra is essential.
I joined the beginners course in September 2019 as I was in the London Marathon ballot and couldn’t run for a bus (thankfully I didn’t get the place!). It’s now 2025 and I’m running London Marathon for the club – which is an honour. I also have a great group of friends from Sole Sisters and the support from the community is amazing.
What are the benefits?
There are plenty of benefits to doing a structured beginners course such as:
– Running with others for support
– Accountability
– Sessions run by a qualified coach
– Safe running in a group
– People to ask questions to
– Useful running knowledge & tips
– Help with injury prevention
